Family therapists are experienced in a wide range of areas including parenting issues,
child and adolescent behaviour, divorce and separation adult mental health and transitions
in family life.
Family therapy has proved to be effective in the following areas:
- Emotional problems including anxiety, depression, grief and self-harm.
- Child and adolescent problems such as behavioural difficulties at home or school
attention deficit and over-activity (ADHD) and conduct difficulties.
- Eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia and obesity (see NICE guidelines 2004)
- Problems in infancy such as sleep , feeding and attachment.
- Coping with transitions such as marital breakdown and helping a couple to parent
effectively after separation.
